Bette Midler is Broadway Bound in New Play

Bette Midler

Legendary star Bette Midler is headed for Broadway for the first time in more than 30 years. The Divine Miss M will appear in the play “I’ll Eat You Last: A Chat With Sue Mengers,” based on the life of the Hollywood super agent. It was written by Tony Award-winning author John Logan and will be directed by Joe Mantello.

Mengers died in 2011 and was described as being both charming and ruthless. She began her career as a receptionist and soon climbed her way to the top, representing some of the industry’s biggest names, including Barbra Streisand and Steve McQueen.

Writer Logan envisioned Midler when he was writing the script. He explained, “She’s a proper stage animal. In a one-person show in particular, you need someone who can hold an audience, who connects with an audience in a really deeply visceral way, and that’s Bette through and through.”

“I’ll Eat You Last: A Chat With Sue Mengers” is scheduled to open on April 24 with exact theater location still to be determined.
