'Boss' Canceled by Starz; Series May Add 2-Hour Finale (Updated)

The Kelsey Grammer drama "Boss" has been canceled by Starz, the network said Monday.


The series, which starred Grammer as Chicago mayor Tom Kane, ran for two seasons, and scored a Golden Globe award for Grammer. (The show had also been nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Drama Series.)

"After much deliberation, we have made the difficult decision to not proceed with 'Boss."  We remain proud of this award-winning show, its exceptional cast and writers, and are grateful to Kelsey Grammer, (series creator) Farhad Safinia and our partners at Lionsgate TV," the network said in a statement.

According to a Starz spokeswoman, discussions are being held to give the series -- which wrapped its second season in October -- a two-hour finale, though the discussions are preliminary they are not close to a deal.
