Oscar-winning actress Kathy Bates has recently shared that she has been diagnosed with breast cancer and chose to undergo a double mastectomy.
The former Harry’s Law star announced the news on Twitter Wednesday, tweeting,”I don’t miss my breasts as much as I miss Harry’s Law. Thanks for all the sweet tweets. Y’all kept me going.”
Bates, 64, also wrote that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer two months ago, which is why she has been so quiet on the web. This is not the actress’ first battle with cancer. Earlier this year she opened up to People magazine about her fight against ovarian cancer, which she was diagnosed with nine years ago.
Thankfully this time Bates said she will not have to go through chemotherapy or radiation treatment. Throughout her ordeal, Bates has kept a strong and positive attitude.
“My family call me Kat because I always land on my feet and thankfully this is no exception,” she said.
Bates’ surgery has not swayed her plans to attend the 64th annual Primetime Emmy Awards which air on Sept 23. The talented star is nominated for Outstanding Actress in a Drama for her role as ex-patent lawyer Harriet Korn on Harry’s Law, as well as for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy for Two and a Half Men.
Despite her health issues, Bates is ready to get back to business.
“My doctors have assured me I’m going to be around for a long time,” she told the magazine. “I’m looking forward to getting back to work doing what I love to do.”
