ABC Announces Fall Premiere Dates - Including for 'Modern Family'

The adult stars of "Modern Family" may be suing to get out of their contracts, but ABC is confident enough that it's merely a negotiating tactic that the network has included the show on its schedule of fall premieres.

"Modern Family," ABC assures us, will be back Sept. 26.

On Tuesday, the cast of ABC's most successful show refused to take part in a table read for its fourth season premiere, and instead sued, demanding that their contracts be voided. (Ty Burrell, Julie Bowen, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Eric Stonestreet and Sofia Vergara initially filed suit, and Ed O'Neill, who is negotiating separately over his contract, joined them in solidarity.) All are seeking significant salary increases.

The suit didn't mean the stars genuinely wanted to leave the show -- only that they were using every means possible to negotiate.

In a sign that the two sides are likely to come to a deal, they have since agreed to go ahead with the table read.

That's good not only because "Modern Family" makes millions of dollars for ABC, but also because it plans to use "Modern Family" to launch the new alien comedy "The Neighbors." It will premiere after "Modern Family" at 9:30 p.m. on Sept. 26 before moving the next week to its regular time slot, at 8:30. On Oct. 17, sophomore series "Suburgatory" will take the plum slot after "Modern Family."
